Grey herons

Hi everyone, I'm sorry for the huge break I made in my blog but you know, we moved back to Finland and schools started... Plus it's the quietest time of summer. All the birds have vanished...
Anyway, I've been thinking to join Birdlife Suomi (Birdlife Finland) for a long time, so I'm probably gonna do that soon. It means that I can join some activities like ringing birds, birdwatching trips around finland and saving and helping birds. And many other things.
Anyway, it's gonna be fall soon, so I'm gonna go birdwatching every weekend when the birds are having their fall migration. I hope I'll get some successfull pics.
Anyway, I've been watching the grey herons at our cabin, and I've got some pics of them.
(Btw, I've never seen so many grey herons at our cabin any other summer! I don't know what has happened, but it just seems like they're everywhere!)

This one let us come real close :D I mean it. We were with the boat (the whole story on instagram) and it just watched us till the last second, and then took off. I know the pics aren't so professional, but my camera isn't neither, so we had to go real close to get these pics. Yes, I've been thinking of a better object, but right now my life feels too busy. Just too busy! Especially because the schools have started and I went on seventh grade so everything is new to me.

Next I'll have some pictures from earlier when we were at our cabin. They're from when we visited the "Tern iland"

So here you go guys, a post after a long time... What do you think? Please comment if you liked, or if I could improve my blog somehow.
I'll probably make a new post soon, and it's gonna be a throwback to... You'll find out!

Thank you for reading!! :)

The kingdom of wagtails

Hi dear readers,Today was a special day. I don't know where to start!
Firstly, my family and I where supposed to bike to a rapid where I could photograph white-throated dippers. I wanted to do this before we move back to Finland (Yep, we're doing that this summer), because you know, the dippers are almost... 30% more rare in Finland (I dare to say). Because there's simply no rapids! Or at least not as much as in Norway.
So, we biked to the rapid, and oh dear! The dippers were gone. For a tiny moment I was upset, but then... I noticed something yellow sitting on a stone? I and zoomed... And at the same time my zoom was starting to be at the stopping point, I already knew what I was photographing.

The grey wagtail! I was so excited!! Yes, I captured it, yeah... After some time I started thinking that this shot wasn't that good. I waited for almost 40 minutes, and then had to go. I was a little bit disappointed...

When we got home I found out that this bird is the rarest wagtail in Finland!!! It has been seen just at few rapids. I still don't know about Norway though.
So with this, I couldn't imagine this was all I got. I went back to the rapid.

There, I sat at one place looking over the whole rapid all the time, but I couldn't see it anymore. I was upset again. I waited for another 40 minutes. Maybe, I thought, I should be happy of what I already have. Maybe it's so rare that it was only resting at that rapid for some time.

But then I saw it again! I was so happy! It sat 'on front of me' for a long time, seeming to be very calm. And I got much better close-up shots!! :D

After that I was so glad that... Yeah, I was really really glad :D As I said I don't know how rare this is in Norway, but I dare to say that you won't find it on every single rapid... Good luck you all, for finding this bird!

... Also, that rapid was literally the Kingdom of Wagtails. I'll tell you why.
It was full of them! There were around four normal ones and then this grey - one, and I was wondering, what are they all doing there? Then, I realized. It was a sunny day, so I noticed that above the water, there were flying thousands of little insects. That was what they were after. Also, there were all kinds of flycatchers and robins, that even dared to go near the water because of the insects.
But the normal wagtails were being nasty to the grey wagtail. They were teasing him off to get all the insects for themselves!

My new blog

Hi guys, you all, the new ones, and the ones who know me from instagram as @birnerd! ♥
Thank you for checking my new blog that I just made, I really appreciate it.
I had been wondering to start a bird blog for a long time, and at the start I thought I'd do it in Finnish. But many of you are English so that wouldn't have been fair.
I just want to show few images of the blackcap that I captured today! At the Semsvann - lake, in Norway. That little bird... Phew, I'm happy I finally captured it! I had, literally, been running after it for three weeks. It has the most beautiful singing voice around our house/this whole area! ♥ Here are the best pictures.

Thank you for following me on instagram (@birdnerd), and for reading my first blog!
